Smart Widows Support System (SWISS) is a widow-owned and widow-led Community Based Organization, founded in 2019 and officially registered in 2020. We exist to promote positive living among widows and their dependents (orphans) by implementing proactive programmes that address social, health, economic, and governance issues. Our work is driven by the urgent need to reverse the extreme poverty, stigma, and dehumanizing cultural practices (such as property seizure and wife inheritance) that widows face, as well as the school dropout, malnutrition, and child labor that orphans endure. We believe in the economic and social empowerment of widows as a pathway to achieving human rights and sustainable development. Currently, we directly support 40 widows and 120 orphans in Embakasi West Sub County, Nairobi. Our vision is "Healthy living for widows and orphans," and we are committed to being a model support group through amplified voice and socio-economic empowerment. We also network with like minded widow and orphans organisations.
